Hi,

I'm using an HTC Mogul with Windows Mobile 6 and trying to sync with a
laptop running XP Pro SP2. I have installed and reinstalled activesync many
times and still cannot create a relationship.

The message that displays on my phone is "To synchronize this device, you
must install ActiveSync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer." All the
computer wants to do is run the troubleshooting utility to no avail. I did
try downloading 4.5 from the web incase the version packaged on the CD was
somehow corrupted, but no go.

Any ideas?

Have you downloaded from the link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync45.mspx
?

If it still doesn't work, yu can try to sync the device with some
other PC/laptop to rule out the popssibility of ActiveSync on device
being corrupted.
To be honest, have never seen such an issue with mt machine having XP
SP2 and my Window Mobile 6 device.

Hi Robert,

Not certain what is causing this error but are you using any firewall
software that might be preventing a successful sync? Additionally, if you
have access to another PC you might be able to determine whether this is a
computer side or device side issue by trying to setup a partnership on it.

I am having similar problem with Auto-sync 4.5 & HTC Mogul & XP Pro on a Dell
laptop. Works OK on desktop using XP Media Center. Laptop has McAfee
antivirus; desktop has Norton. The Mogul & laptop simply will not connect.
Also, Windows Explorer shows no files on mobile device. Am installing XP SP3
as I write this
