ActiveSync quit syncing my HP iPAQ rx1950 PocketPC running WM5 (5.1.1702).
It acts like its connected then displays "ActiveSync cannot connect to the
Windows Mobile powered device. To troubleshoot the problem, click OK."
If i run it through the troubleshooter it says "Unable to establish a
connection between the PC and the device. Get up-to-date solutions to common
connection problems. Please click the following link:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=65257"
No errors are displayed on the device. Windows Firewall says its off and I
uninstalled ZoneAlarm a few weeks ago trying to solve this problem.

Troubleshooter log follows:

Hi,
Do you have an existing partnership on the device? You may have to delete
the partnership on the PC as well. These are each controlled in ActiveSync
on the PC and Pocket PC respectively. On the PC use File - Delete
Partnership. On the Pocket PC, launch ActiveSync and you can delete it
there.

Ok I did that just now and no change. Maybe something got screwed up on the

Hi,
Do you have an existing partnership on the device? You may have to delete
the partnership on the PC as well. These are each controlled in ActiveSync
on the PC and Pocket PC respectively. On the PC use File - Delete
Partnership. On the Pocket PC, launch ActiveSync and you can delete it
there.

Get up-to-date solutions to common
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=65257"
No errors are displayed on the device. Windows Firewall says its off and I
uninstalled ZoneAlarm a few weeks ago trying to solve this problem.

I tried reinstalling just ActiveSync after running Detect & Repair on
Outlook..no change. I'm loading Office 2007 on my Vista box to see if I can
get it working on it. I'm beginning to think theres an issue with the device
which seems odd since the PC sees it as a network connection when I connect
it.

I tried reinstalling just ActiveSync after running Detect & Repair on
Outlook..no change. I'm loading Office 2007 on my Vista box to see if I can
get it working on it. I'm beginning to think theres an issue with the device
which seems odd since the PC sees it as a network connection when I connect
it.
Post by Chris De Herrera
Hi,
You can reinstall ActiveSync and try to sync again.

Did a complete reinstall of Windows, Office, everything. Still doesnt work.
Im guessing i'll just have to bite the bullet and buy a new device :(.
Before you give up, try disabling RNDIS by going to
Start/Settings/Connections(Tab)/USB-to-PC and uncheck the "Enable Advanced
Networking" box. This clears up a lot of connection issues.

I assume by "Connections (Tab)" you mean t the bottom of the screen..

I'm given the following 4 options:
Beam
Connections
iPAQ Wireless
Network Cards
No sign of "USB-to-PC"

That's unfortunate... Starting with WM5, mobile devices used the RNDIS
(networking) method of connecting to a PC nstead of the old "USB Serial"
method. Apparentlythis caused problems for enough people that newer
releases of WM5 added the USB-to-PC applet to allow people to turn RNDIS
off and let their devices connect the "old-fashioned" way.

Perhaps there's an updated ROM available from the manufacturer of your
device that might add the USB-to-PC applet? Alternatively, you might try
connecting via bluetooth or infrared if you can scrounge up a dongle of
either type for your PC.

What updates I did find require things to be working normally to install so I
guess I'll have to find a new PDA. Thanks for the suggestions all.

I had the same problem and found the following on another blog on this same site. It works perfectly now!

Unable to establish a connection between the PC and the deviceLinley Meslier posted on Friday, August 31, 2007 1:00 AM
On your device, go to Start - Settings - Connections and locate USB to
PC. Uncheck "Enable advance Network Functionality" Let me know if this
helps.

Get up-to-date solutions to common
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=65257"
No errors are displayed on the device. Windows Firewall says its off and I
uninstalled ZoneAlarm a few weeks ago trying to solve this problem.

Hi,
Do you have an existing partnership on the device? You may have to delete
the partnership on the PC as well. These are each controlled in ActiveSync
on the PC and Pocket PC respectively. On the PC use File - Delete
Partnership. On the Pocket PC, launch ActiveSync and you can delete it
there.

Before you give up, try disabling RNDIS by going to
Start/Settings/Connections(Tab)/USB-to-PC and uncheck the "Enable Advanced
Networking" box. This clears up a lot of connection issues.

I assume by "Connections (Tab)" you mean t the bottom of the screen..

iPAQ Wireless
Network Cards
No sign of "USB-to-PC"

What updates I did find require things to be working normally to install so I
guess I will have to find a new PDA. Thanks for the suggestions all.
