Everything was fine with my Pocket PC and one day Active Sync stopped connecting to my PC. No matter what I do, I get a message "Device Cannot be Found." I have installed software, uninstalled software, rebooted...I cannot get my PC to recognize that my Pocket PC is hooked up. I don't even get the "New Hardware Found" message when I start from square one. Is someone able to help???

Hi Caroline,

* Did you try connecting your device after performing a soft reset?
* Which device are you using?
* ActiveSync version currently installed?
* When the device is connected, does it appear under the Device Manager?

Hi Raj,

I'm having the same problem. I have an Asus My Pal A730W with WM2003SE and AS 3.8. Suddenly I was unable to sincronize my ppc with my pc (win xp), I putted the ppc in the cradle, the message "connect to" apears and "establishing connection", "USB: user authenticated" and the double arrows apear with a cross underneath. I have soft reseted, hard reseted, re-instaled AS 3.8, I even changed the usb port where i connect the ppc and when I connected it again the "new hardware found" message apeared and identified the ppc correctly... i don't know what to do more, if you could help I would be very appretiated.

Thanks!

João

Hi João,

Have you enabled the checkbox for USB connection in ActiveSync? (Click File -> Connection Settings) Additionally when the device is connected, does it appear under the Device Manager?

Hi Raj,

Thanks for your note. I've tried connecting after a soft reset, reboots,
everything. I'm using a Toshiba e350 Pocket PC. Active Sync version is
4.1. I can't get the device connected so I can't answer your last question.
I have no idea what to do.

Mayday!

Caroline

Hi Caroline,

First I would recommend you to downgrade the version of ActiveSync since AS
4.x version is specifically meant for WM 5.0 devices. Unless you are using
a WM 5.0 device, there is no reason for you to use AS 4.x version. If not,
suggest you refer to http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj/AS40Guest.html to
uninstall AS 4.1 from your system completely and then install AS 3.8.
Available for download here -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync38.mspx

Next, I understand that Toshiba e350 requires OEM USB drivers for successful
setup of partnership. You can download these drivers from
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=210707
Refer to the readme file that is provided with the driver package.

Once done, connect your device and you should be able to sync successfully
(assuming the ports on your firewall are configured correctly). With
respect to my last question, I wanted you to do the following:

1. Click Start, then click Run. Type the following:

devmgmt.msc

Click Ok. This should open up the device manager.

2. Connect your Pocket PC via USB and verify if you see an entry at the
bottom Windows CE USB Devices. The entry will appear only if the correct
USB drivers are loaded. You could try it after following the above
instructions.
